FLAG BOY Amazon Snapshot
"Kronke's Surprising Killer Revealed"
Best writing of the Tubby Dubonnet series. The craft sentences and vivid descriptions charmed my way through the story. As we have come to expect, "Flag Boy" has unique and unforgettable characters and plot with alpine-highway twists and turns. But, the descriptions of people and places really jumped off the page this time. Or, as the hackneyed reviewer might say "the smell of the okra steaming and taste the cayenne cooking makes your mouth water for an ice-cold Abita."
I loved the set up for the conclusion: it was Clue-like “the butler did it with the candlestick in the parlor.” A really nice and well-constructed allusion.
We find out who was the mysterious killer of Kronke at the end of “Fat Man Blues”--frankly the only logical person, but shockingly out of character.
"Flag Boy" ends with a really nice twist, apparently bringing an end to the "Fat Man Blues"/"Flag Boy" plot line. But I guess we will not know for sure until we get to read Book 11, which I hope is soon! -Amazon Customer
"Another Great Read"
I am always anxious for the next Tubby Dubonnet book in the series to come out! And I am Never wanting the book to be finished reading. I love all of Tony Dunbar's books in this series, and have read them all. I love the way his mysteries unfold, the suspense, and the 'sights' we see along the way. It has been some years since I was 'home', but I can tell you, it is Exactly as he writes it. And the Food! OMG, I find myself wanting to jump on down and Eat! I love seeing my home again through Tubby's eyes, tasting the food, and meeting all the unusual people..OK, Characters!
If you see Tony Dunbar's name on a book, you Know you are in for a great read, and a very good way to pass a good reading time. -Anne Cheviron
"Another Great Tubby Adventure"
After picking up the first Tubby book, I couldn’t put them down! Now sad to say I’m in a real spot having read the newest most recent Tubby adventure I’ll have to wait until we are blessed with the next in the series,, let’s all hope it is a very short wait!
NOW,, Flag Boy is a great read, lots of twists and turns, like the others, you won’t be able to put it down! just get it, you won’t be disappointed!!!!!...-Walt
"Excellent New Orleans based mystery"
Likable characters and locale make these mysteries quick, enjoyable reads. The author's writing continues to improve with every new installment. We just moved, after 20 years, away from the Mobile/new Orleans area. Dunbar knows his city and describes it vividly. I feel like I am right there in that sweltering, crazed, laid-back small-big city. The opening paragraphs of Chapter 22 say it all and will make a reader homesick.
Love these books. Just anxious for the next one! -Will's Mom
"Tubby finds trouble again"
Another adventure in the life of Tubby Dubonnet. As always, trouble tends to find Tubby or vice versa. The setting is New Orleans and that just about makes the book destined to be a good read. Tony Dunbar does not let us down. If you haven't read any of these I suggest you start back at the beginning and hang on for an enjoyable ride. -Thad Allen
"Murder in two states, Client in the wrong place makes for Bedlam"
The set-up alone is enough to make you believe in the butterfly effect. Two acrobats burglarize a house; a sultan moves into a French Quarter mansion; a Mardi Gras Indian, in the wrong place at the wrong time, is wrongfully arrested; and our hero, lawyer and sometime-detective Tubby Dubonnet, comes upon a double murder while paying a social call in the wilds of Mississippi. Thus is the stage set. You know instantly-- because this is a Tubby Dubonnet mystery-- that these disparate events are intricately intertwined. Next, as Elmore Leonard famously never said, all hell breaks loose-- and with more than a touch of Leonard's own brand of wry and knowing humor. You can barely turn the page before a bloody massacre leaves the sultan's entire family dead; the Indian-- now Tubby's client-- gets fingered for this one, too; one of the acrobatic burglars hooks up with Tubby's best friend; and some way, somehow, Dunbar weaves each of these wildly divergent strands-- and a few others-- into the kind of old-fashioned puzzle mystery they just don't write anymore. It's as if James M. Cain married Agatha Christie.
What did I like? I have loved every one of Tony’s books that I have read and this one did not let me down. His character Tubby Dubonnet is charismatic, handsome, lonely and always in the middle of things. He just can’t seem to stay out of them.
What are you going to like? Tony has a way with his descriptions that take you right to the area that he is writing about. His research shows up on every page and you can tell he knows what he is writing about. His characters will capture you and you get to know them as the pages rapidly turn. Electrifying, hair-raising, heart-stopping, humorous, mystery, legal thriller with exciting characters that just keep growing. If you have not read any of the other in this series or for that matter any of his books, take the time and pick them up…. They are awesome! I received this from the publisher as an ARC for an honest review with no other compensation then I also borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited and read the final version. -DD Gott
"Never a Disappointment"
Tony Dunbar has done it again, always a treat reading about Tubby and his gang of friends. Don't pass this by!! -April Lewis

FAT MAN BLUES Amazon Snapshot
“Delightful, quirky characters –only in New Orleans”
Lovers of New Orleans, conspiracy stories and readers still wondering who killed JFK will enjoy this light-hearted New Orleans mystery. Bad guys and crooks (there’s a difference) spin around main character Tubby Dubonnet like he’s their nucleus, and they’re all out to smash him. I was hooked by an axe murderer Prologue followed by a funny “righteous” death in Chapter 1. Fat Man Blues has lots of surprising plot twists and plenty of good laughs as Tubby, a lawyer, runs the gambit amid voodoo, water elixirs, a wannabe Godfather, and the Vietnamese mob. Tubby and his regular characters pick up where this last novel left off, but there’s plenty of back story for new readers (a bit too much for regular readers). As the cast of characters grows, the action accelerates a third of the way through. The book is well worth finishing because of the surprises – plenty of them down to the last paragraph. Tubby does have his serious, philosophical side plus a strong allegiance to clients and restaurants – old and new. And fortunately for the reader he spends very little time in the courtroom. The characters are off-the-wall, unique, yet realistic because of the setting – only in New Orleans. As a writer, Dunbar has mastered irony with subtle jabs of humor and captured the real New Orleans from political corruption to eating out. –Diane Skelton
“Well worth the read.”
I have enjoyed all the books in this series with the Lawyer : Tubby Dubonnet. The books are interesting and the characters have become old acquaintances. There are twists in the plots that keep me guessing "who done it"! I love that Tubby thinks about things and gets philosophical at times but then goes out fishing with his buddy and forgets all that heavy thinking stuff for a little while. These books are well worth reading! –Sharon Sprouse
“Five Stars”
Another excellent book by Tony Dunbar. Deftly written and fast-moving. I call him New Orleans' Carl Hiaasen. –Amazon Customer
“One of my favorite series!”
All the Tony Dubonnet books make you want to open a law office in the quarter and eat gumbo all day- jlw6c
“You will hate for it to end.” – Peter A. Moulton
“Love the Series”
Tubby Dubonnet has moved into my library to stay. Good plots make for stimulating reads, and the descriptions of NOLA, her neighborhoods, the muddy Mississippi, and especially the food, leaves me feeling like I have visited the place and experienced my own adventure there. Keep it up, Tony Dunbar! – Amazon Customer
“Bon Appetit!”
Another great read with a plot and bunch of crazy characters that simmer away and eventually coalesce into a story as good as the N'arlins cooking described so well by Mr Dunbar. Bravo et Merci! – Don Gilllis
“For the love of Tubby”
Dunbar has created one of my favorite characters. Tubby Dubonnet is as shrewd, clueless and naively innocent as any truly honest and dedicated lawyer could ever dream to be. He is the ultimate anti-hero. Keep him coming. – grammboma
“Tubby is Back!”
I was thrilled to see a new entry in this series, because Tubby and the cursing cast of characters in these books--his secretary Cherrylynn, his friend Raisin, the PI Flowers, and others are like old acquaintances, and I need to see how they are continuing to make out. This book takes up where the last one, the Night Watchman, left off. I would have to say the series is getting darker all the time as Tubby battles it out with a dwindling band of Cuban revolutionaries, takes a possible axe murderer as a client, and finds himself (and his friends and colleagues) under threat from all directions. In just 159 pages, Dunbar doesn't have time to deal with a lot of nuance, although he does have time for a tour of a few new New Orleans eating places. Perhaps he was racing to the finish so he could start writing the next volume. This one, while it has a satisfying conclusion, inevitably leaves a few ends still unraveled. – James Mowry
“Another Hit from Mr. Dunbar”
Another Hit from Mr. Dunbar! I've read them all and have never been disappointed. Tubby, the central character (and I do mean "character"!), is a man who loves everything New Orleans, especially the great food and music. He's very resourceful and has some unusual friends, nothing out of the ordinary for New Orleans. This new book might seem to jump around a bit in the first few chapters but it all comes together through the plot twists and turns of events. I totally recommend this one and the others too, and plan to share with my family. Have fun and enjoy "Fat Man Blues." – Wappo Pete
“I enjoy the continuity of having familiar characters appear in all of the books”
I always look forward to reading Tony Dunbar's latest book - he never disappoints, and Fat Man Blues is no different. Just when I think I have things all wrapped up in my head, the story takes yet one more twist, and I'm totally shocked! I enjoy the continuity of having familiar characters appear in all the books. The author continues to build on each character, their relationships, and even digs back to previous books, keeping my memories relevant. –KBS
“Is the Fat Man an axe murderer? Read and find out!”
I thoroughly enjoy the Tubby DuBonnet series and The Fat Man Blues is no exception. All characters are carefully drawn and, after reading a few of the books, you come to know the interesting cast of characters and what their reactions will most likely be. The ninth installment is a fun read - full of wonderful descriptions of all aspects of New Orleans from the old buildings to the fabulous food of the region. Tubby is a lawyer who takes on a wide array of clients - this time a potential axe murderer. Tubby is a good man, a flawed man, but a man who wants to right wrongs. He has a very unique way of finding solutions for his and his client's problems. Twists and turns may be an understatement, but rest assured they are plentiful. I received an advance copy of Fat Man Blues in exchange for an honest review, but I enjoyed the book so much that I purchased it upon publication so that I would have all updates and edits in my

“Another wild ride with Tubby”
Where do they crawl out from, the cooks and crooks of Tubby's universe?. A huge man selling bottled water "the elixir of the angles", who has a Big beheading ax in his car. A group of Cuban 2nd generation freedom fighters lead by an old priest, Chinese mafia, " Killer cops" and a multitude of other acquaintances are all found in this story. This New Orleans lawyer seems to draw the most unusual, citizens of the back streets, and underground into his office. Sometimes there is a little gore, some tongue in cheek action. Then you just want to role you eyes at the antics. I have read every one of these books! Can't wait for the next! Maybe I am a little weird, but I thoroughly enjoy reading them! – Marily4EveraNurse
“Satisfying”
Tony Dunbar never disappoints, Tubby Dubonnet just improves with age. The plots develop over time as do the players. The book is like another visit to old friends – Richard (Sausalito, California)
“Tubby Dubonnet is back!”
Woo-hoo, another Tubby Dubonnet novel. He is a lawyer in New Orleans who knows some shady characters, loves the restaurants, and has grown daughters and a divorced wife, so he dates. These novels are so much fun, though there are tragic moments in them. Tubby is good, but the author will give us insight on the bigger picture, the facts behind what happens. I love his client in this one, and the unique plot that develops when the fat man starts a business when his prison term is done. No spoilers. –P.R. Cope

NIGHT WATCHMAN Review in the New Orleans Advocate - 11/8/2015
by Celeste Berteau
Night Watchman is the latest book in New Orleans writer/lawyer Tony Dunbar's popular Tubby Dubonnet series of mysteries. It's a pleasure to have Tubby back since it's been nearly ten years since Dunbar published "Tubby Meets Katrina," No. 7 in the series that began in 1994 with "Crooked Man."
A successful New Orleans lawyer, Tubby Dubonnet found himself less and less enamored with his adopted hometown. Over the years, he encountered more and more of the dark underbelly of crime in the city.
"All the violence and corruption in New Orleans began to shove aside, in his mind, the city's alluring beauty, color and pageantry." Then Hurricane Katrina happened, and like so many, Tubby came to the realization that he dearly loved what was almost lost.
"Night Watchman" begins with Tubby relaxing on the balcony of a condo in Naples, Florida, when he is assaulted by a memory from his teenage years 40 years ago. While visiting New Orleans from his home town of Bunkie in anticipation of attending Tulane University, the young Tubby stumbles into a protest march against the Vietnam war. The march has been planned to coincide with a visit to New Orleans by Henry Kissinger. As the secretary of state's limousine approaches Canal Street a block away from the cordoned-off protester, one of the marchers, young man, is shot from the back seat of a passing sedan. Tubby runs to assist the boy, who dies in his arms.
This is, of course, a haunting memory, and as aTubby considers his good fortune and watches the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico, he resolves to return to New Orleans and solve the mystery the police have never attempted to solve. Who killed the young man whose name was Parker? And why? Once back home, Tubby is treated to all things New Orleans. And so is the reader. From the Bywater to the Central Business District to the Warehouse District to Uptown, Tubby eats and drinks his way through interrogations and rendezvous, and it's all delicious. The book is packed with contemporary New Orleans culture and plenty of humor from the quirky characters, and the story never gets lost in the details. Along with dealing with good cops and bad cops, and a Cuban syndicate, the charming Tubby has time for some romance as well.
The reader of a certain age will rate to the flashbacks of the Civil Rights and Vietnam War eras, as well as New Orleans' connection to the Kennedy assassination. Younger readers will enjoy a lagniappe history lesson embedded in a story that emphasizes the importance of long-term friendships and desire of most of use to right the wrongs that have been inflicted on our fellow humans.
Fans of Robert B. Parker's Spenser novels should enjoy Dunbar's writing very much, and "Night Watchman" will engage any reader who enjoys a well-written story regardless of genre. Especially those readers who love New Orleans.

Check out what people have had to say about Night Watchman so far!
"Tony Dunbar is one of my favorite authors...I love stories about Tubby Dubonnet, an attorney and bon vivant in New Orleans...I especially love that he owns a bar and comes up with concoctions of drink; he also eats most of the time and make me want to eat too...The stories he writes are filled with beautiful New Orleans sites of lakes, rivers, streetscapes, and architecture...It makes you want to be there..." - Peter, August 24, 2015
"There are very few authors whose books I buy as soon as they are published, Tony Dunbar is firmly on that list." - J.R., August 16th, 2015
"Love this writer... Always on the edge of my seat and hard to put down." - Bethany, August 15, 2015
"I only discovered Tony Dunbar a little more than a year ago, but at this point I think I've read all of his Tubby Dubonnet novels. I thought Tony Dunbar was done with Tubby after "Tubby Meets Katrina." Thankfully, I was wrong. In Night Watchman we see the return of Tubby, Cherrilynn, Raisin, and Flowers. I'm more than happy to have them back." - Judge Fudge, July 29th, 2015
"Reading the Tubby series is to become immersed in New Orleans' funkiness. Dunbar always tells good stories, and peppers them with eccentric characters. "I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! I thoroughly enjoyed reading the latest installment of the series! Since it's been a few years since I read a Tubby book, I was worried I would forget the characters and previous plot points - but not the case! Dunbar did a fantastic job incorporating the past and present. The book also stands alone as a intriguing story of murder and mystery with the beautiful backdrop of New Orleans. Dunbar's description of food is mouth-watering! After reading Night Watchman, I'm anxious to book my next trip to Nola!!!" - Annalisa, June 4, 2015

Night Watchman resumes the lawyer's adventurous tales after a long hiatus, and reading it was over long before I wanted it to be. I can only hope the next installment will be coming soon." - PelicanMe, July 3rd, 2015

New Orleans lawyer Anthony Dunbar produces collection of solutions straight from the South
In 1930, literary figures came together to protest changes in the Southern way of life in an anthology of essays called "I'll Take My Stand," edited by Allen Tate and Robert Penn Warren. In 2004, other Southern writers followed suit for an election-year volume, called "Where We Stand: Voices of Southern Dissent," edited by New Orleans lawyer Anthony Dunbar. Now, for this election year, Dunbar is back with a new collection that shows the ways in which the South can offer solutions to national dilemmas. Read More
